Trivia results.

The answers to the trivia from last Friday are below. I got some interesting responses, many that were wrong, or were not what I was looking for, while those that submitted, insisted they were right. Anyone who made the attempt got credit.

1. As it turns out, there are a few different views as to what the suits of the cards represented. However, the most common and historically significant answer came from the French in the 15th century. The suits represented the different classes of people: Clergy (Hearts), Merchant/Working Class (Diamonds), The Peasants (Clubs), and the Nobility (Spades). While there are some other interpretations, including those of the tarot, this is the generally accepted representations.

2. Turns out that there are a lot of card games with 3 hole cards… however, the key phrase was “like hold ’em”. This means a “community card game” that has almost the exact same rules as hold ’em, except you get 3 hole cards dealt pre-flop instead of 2. The game is called Pineapple (or Crazy Pineapple), and works just like hold ’em except after the flop you must discard exactly 1 of your hole cards. Three card poker is not like hold ’em, and neither is any stud game (which gives you technically 3 hole cards), as they are not community games.

3. There are also different orders for suits, but the generally accpepted one in U.S. Poker (from highest to lowest): Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs. (If you refer back to question #1, it makes a bit more sense).

Thanks for playing!

PPS. For those of you who read entire emails and posts or check the website regularly… good for you! You never know what kind of bonus offer you’ll find if you are thorough! Case in point: Anyone who is a member of the Posh Poker facebook group, and posts to the group today, will get a bonus at the Doubletree game. If you are not a member, but request to join, that will serve as your bonus. If you are not a member of facebook, and have no desire to be, just tell me so at the game, and you’ll get the bonus as well. If you are on facebook, but are too lazy to join… I’ll be too lazy to hand you a chip 😉

Simply go to facebook, and search for Posh Poker to find and join the group.
